Quenta Noldorinwa
the earliest full prose form of the Silmarillion
Nature
The Quenta Noldorinwa is the first complete prose “Quenta” that Tolkien wrote (c. 1930, with the “Ambarkanta”): the earliest continuous narrative of the Silmarillion, forming the immediate ancestor of the published Quenta Silmarillion. Its forms differ in details (genealogies, names, the shape of the end), and Christopher Tolkien prints it (with the “B” and later texts) in The Shaping of Middle-earth, where its relations to the later versions are laid out.
