The Lost Road and Other Writings is the fifth volume of The History of Middle-earth, centring on the unfinished time-travel romance ‘The Lost Road’ - the tale of father and son who slip backward through the ages to Númenor and the elder times - together with the Lhammas, the Later Annals of Beleriand, and the earliest history of the fall of the island.
Its Standing
The abandoned time-story is one of the boldest of Tolkien’s experiments; even incomplete, it links the modern world to the drowning of Númenor and gives the annals of the late form of the legendarium.
