The Event
The Rising of the Sun was the first rising of the Sun over Middle-earth, made by the Valar of the last fruit of Laurelin and set to sail with the maiden Arien, to the first dawn of the new age; its light drove the shadows and hated the creatures of Angband.
Its Sign
The first sunrise was the token of the changing of the world: the victory of the host of the Valar over the darkness of the North, the waking of Men, and the fitting of the sun to the new age of the world; and in the First Age it set the very stars (the Moon of Tilion) in their courses.
