Definition
The Sea is the great water that bounds Middle-earth and separates it from Aman — “The Sea” — the sea of resorting, of the sea-longing of the Eldar, of the paths of the ships (Eärendil’s voyage) and of the Drowning of Beleriand and Númenor: the great metaphor of the mythology’s homesickness.
