Name and Reign
Ar-Adûnakhôr (“Lord of the West”) was the twentieth King of Númenor and the first to take his title in the Adûnaic tongue rather than the Elvish speech — a deed that flouted the ways of the Faithful and opened the feud of the tongues. He reigned from S.A. 2825 to 2962.
The Persecution
He persecuted the Faithful and forbade the Elvish speech and even the names of the Valar, yet the Lord of the West was ever himself at heart afraid of the West; the shadow he fed brought the island step by step toward its ruin.
