Belegund
of the house of Bëor; the brother of Baragund and father of Rían
Lineage and Life
Belegund was of the House of Bëor, the brother of Baragund and a son of Bregolas. After the breaking of Dorthonion in the Dagor Bragollach he passed with his brother into the outlaw company of Barahir, holding out in the woods of the north; and he fell with that company when it was betrayed by Gorlim at Tarn Aeluin, when all were slain save Beren.
His daughter was Rían, who wed Huor of the House of Hador; their son was Tuor, through whom the blood of the houses of Bëor and Hador passes to Eärendil and the Half-elven.
Significance
Through Rían and Huor, Belegund’s line is joined to the two great strands of the First Age — the house of Hador and, through Tuor and Idril, the house of the kings of Gondolin — and so reaches, by way of Eärendil, to Elros and Elrond and all the kings of Númenor.
