Eldalondë
the Haven of the Eldar on the west of Númenor
Names
Eldalondë, the “Haven of the Eldar” (from ‘‘eldar’’ and ‘‘londë’’, a land-locked haven), is the name of one of the western havens of Númenor.
Geography
The haven was built at the mouth of the river Nunduinë, toward the middle of the coast of Númenor’s great western bight, between the arms of the wide Bay of Eldanna. The country about it, Nísimaldar, was famed for its fragrant trees, which grew there in great numbers.
History
Eldalondë was the chief landing-place of the Eldar, especially those of Tol Eressëa, who came to visit Númenor; and it was accounted the most beautiful of all the havens of the isle. It was drowned with the land itself in the Downfall of S.A. 3319.
