Name and Role
Elemmakil was an Elf of Gondolin, the warden of the outer gate of the hidden city — the guardian who met the wayfarers when at last they reached the end of the hidden way. When Tuor and Voronwë passed the gates of the stolen path and came to the outer ward, Elemmakil received them, questioned them concerning their quest and guide, and — satisfied by the witness they bore and the passwords of Turgon’s realm — led them inward, going on before to warn the guards of the deeper gates.
In the Fall
His part in the surviving texts is confined to this coming of Tuor (the great gate-warding passage of Of Tuor and His Coming to Gondolin); his fate in the sack of the city is not recorded.
