The Age
The First Age was the elder age of the Children of Ilúvatar — the age that began with the awakening of the Elves and the making of the world’s deepest light, and that ended with the overthrow of Morgoth and the drowning of Beleriand in the War of Wrath.
The Triumph
It is also the age of the Silmarils, of the kinslayings and the great sorrows of the Noldor, and of the ends where the free peoples were broken — of the three unions of Men and Elves, and the last standing of Fingolfin and the sons of Fëanor in the long defeat.
