Elemmírë
the Vanyar poet who made the lament of the Two Trees
Name and Art
Elemmírë was a poet of the Vanyar of Valinor, remembered in the annals as the maker of the great lament of the Two Trees — the dirge that was sung when the light of Telperion and Laurelin was quenched, the first of the sorrows of the Elves.
Her Song
Her name means ‘Star-jewel’, Her lament ‘Aldudénie’ (the down-falling of the Light) is among the oldest of the songs preserved, and the Silmarillion sets her tears and the shock of the Darkening at the heart of the tale of the Trees.
