The Darkening of Valinor
the poisoning of the Two Trees; the falling of the light
The Deed
The Darkening of Valinor was the ruin of the Light of the Blessed Realm, when Melkor, come at last from his fetters, was borne on the webs of Ungoliant to the mound Ezellohar; there he pierced the Two Trees with his black spear and the ravenous spider drank their radiance, so that the world passed into darkness.
The Aftermath
The light of the Trees lived only in the The Silmarils that Fëanor had made, and their stealing in the hour that followed sundered the house of the Noldor and kindled the long tragedy; the Darkening stands as the beginning of the age of sorrow wherefrom no returning light was seen.
