Talath Dirnen

the Guarded Plain before the gates of Nargothrond

placetalath dirnennargothrondguarded plain

The Plain

Talath Dirnen was the wide plain that lay between the rivers Narog and Sirion and below the falls and the Ered Wethrin’s shadow — the open march that kept the secret city of Nargothrond from the eyes of the enemy, patrolled ever by the hawks and the wardens of the hidden kings.

The Fall

While the policy of the hidden realm endured, the plain slept in peace; but when Túrin urged open war and the bridge and the host rode abroad, the Guarded Plain was laid bare, and Glaurung came with fire and the host of Orcs to the sack of the fortress.
