The Peaks
The Crissaegrim were the southern group of the great Encircling Mountains, sharp and deadly, whose tops were the eyries of the Eagles under Thorondor; from their crags the Great Eagles looked down upon the hidden city of Gondolin and the passes to the north.
The Rescue
When Gondolin was sacked, the Eagles of the Crissaegrim came with Thorondor in the hour of the burning: they bore Tuor and Idril and the host of the refugees from the fire, slew the Balrog in the pass, and were the dearest friends of the exiles’ road.
