The Walls
The Echoriath were the great mountain-ring north of the vale of Sirion, about whose inner lands lay the hidden vale of Tumladen and the city of Gondolin — a natural rampart unscalable and unapproachable, guarded by the Eagles and by the seeming desolation of its outer slopes.
The Hidden Road
Into its midst Turgon led his people by a hidden and guarded pass, and none of the enemies of the Elves could find the entrance upon the desolate mounts until the dark secret was betrayed from within.
