Names

The Firth of Drengist (in early writing glossed “narrow firth”) is the name of the great inlet of the far north-west of Beleriand.

Geography

The Sea ran long inland through the breach between the western mountains of Dor-lómin — the Ered Lómin — and the coast of Nevrast, separating Lammoth in the north from Nevrast in the south. At the inner end of the firth opened the cleft of the Cirith Ninniach; outside its outlet lay the little-known isle of Ened.

History

To the Firth of Drengist came the first ships of the Noldor: the host of Fëanor landed on the northern shore and burned its vessels at Losgar, at the firth’s outlet. Later, when Morgoth first assailed the north, Fingolfin thrust the Orcs back into the firth and slew them in the sea.
