Annon-in-Gelydh, the Gate of the Noldor, is the Sindarin name of the hidden gate in the hills of Dor-lómin.
Geography
The gate stood in the western hills of Dor-lómin. Beyond it a subterranean river-bed ran beneath the mountains: the stream, whose waters came from the end of Lake Mithrim (see Mithrim), was followed through the dark tunnel and issued at last at the Cirith Ninniach, the Rainbow Cleft, opening upon the .
History
By tradition the gate was made by the Noldor of Gondolin in the days of Turgon, to keep a hidden road between the lands east and west of the mountains after his people departed. It was long forgotten; but Tuor, fleeing the servitude of Hithlum, rediscovered the Gate of the Noldor and passed through it into Nevrast.
