The Siege of Barad-dûr
the seven years of investment at the end of the Last Alliance
The Siege
The Siege of Barad-dûr was the long investment of the Dark Tower at the end of the Second Age: after the Battle of Dagorlad the armies of the Last Alliance entered Mordor and girdled the tower of Sauron for seven years, watching and starving it through the summers and the winters.
The End
At last Sauron came forth and fought the terrible duel upon the slopes of Orodruin, where Elendil and Gil-galad fell but the Ring was cut from the Dark Lord’s hand by Isildur; with the ring lost, the tower’s garrison was scattered and the siege was broken — and Barad-dûr lay in ruin until the returning Dark Lord rebuilt it in secret.
