The Temple
The Temple of Melkor was the vast and gloomy shrine raised in Armenelos as Númenor turned from the Valar; its precincts and its abomination grew under Sauron’s counsel until the fires of sacrifice dimmed the moon, and its tall columns and its smoke were the sign of the ruin of the island.
The End
When the Downfall came, the Temple and all its rites were swallowed with the island in the sea; its memory remained in the annals of the Faithful as the emblem of Númenor’s fall.
