The End of the Kingdom
The Downfall of Númenor was the ruin of the great island-kingdom in S.A. 3319, when Ar-Pharazôn, deceived by Sauron and in pride of his might, lifted his arm against the Sea and the Lords of the West. The Valar laid down their guardianship, Eru broke the world, and the island was swallowed by the sea.
The Changing of the World
The shape of the world was changed — the straight way of the sea was taken from Men, and only the Nine Ships of the Faithful only escaped, driven eastward upon the wind and the wave, to the landing of Elendil and the founding of the Realms in Exile.
