the old way of the Elves to the West across the changed world
The Road
The Straight Road is the way of the Elves from the havens to the West — the old way of the world that was made straight by Eru in the Changing of the World, so that only the Elven-ships might still sail from the western coast of the Mortal Lands to the shores of Aman.
The Wane
Gildor spoke of it: the roads of the Elves go ever on, and the sea is their home; when the time came the Ring-bearers and the last keepers of the Three took the Straight Road home from the Grey Havens, and the way of the Elves departed from Middle-earth forever.
