The Tale
Aldarion and Erendis (‘the Mariner’s Wife’) is a tale of the early Second Age that stands among the Great Tales — the story of the love and long estrangement of Tar-Aldarion, King of the Sea, and his wife Erendis, whose hearts were pulled asunder between the Sea and the Land, and whose quarrel darkened the house of the King.
The Text
Told in Unfinished Tales with a long and stern commentary, it is the fullest narrative voicing of Númenor before the Shadow, and the mirror of the doom between Man and the Sea that the island was heading.
