Tar-Meneldur
the star-gazer; the fifth King of Númenor, father of Tar-Aldarion
Name and Reign
Tar-Meneldur was the fifth King of Númenor, son of Tar-Elendil and father of Tar-Aldarion; a lover of stars and lore, he was ill-pleased by his son’s passion for the Sea. He reigned from S.A. 740 to 883, and in his last years dwelt in the tower of the west, whence he watched the paths of the Sun.
The Conflict
His reign saw the beginning of the great quarrels of the house — the oaths and the estrangement between Tar-Aldarion and Erendis — and the first shadow of doubt laid upon the Kings: the news of the Evil that was stirring in Middle-earth, of which the Númenóreans should beware, and the changing of the Ban before the eyes of the wise.
