The Chronicle
The Tale of Years of the Second Age is the chronological record of the age, from its first year in the West under Elros to the fall of the Dark Lord in S.A. 3441 — the kings’ reigns, the forging of the Rings, the wars of Sauron, the Downfall, and the Last Alliance, with the notable years of the Realm in Exile in the opening of its epilogue.
The Source
It is drawn chiefly from The Lord of the Rings, Appendix B, together with the annals of the Second Age and the commentary of Unfinished Tales, and it underlies the chaptering of Of the Rings of Power.
