Amon Rûdh
the Bald Hill; the lair of the outlaws
Names
Amon Rûdh — “the Bald Hill”, in Khuzdul Sharbhund — is the name of the hill above the moorlands of the Petty-dwarves.
Geography
A hill of rock that rose to a height of about a thousand feet, Amon Rûdh stood upon the eastern edge of the high moors of the Nibin-noeg, south of the Forest of Brethil and the Teiglin. Only the deep-red flower seregon grew upon its summit, so that the crown of the hill looked as if it were covered with blood.
History
In its caves the Petty-dwarf Mîm dwelt with his sons; captured by the outlaws of Túrin, he ransomed his home with his life, and the hill became Bar-en-Danwedh, the House of Ransom. When Beleg came, Amon Rûdh was made the stronghold of Dor-Cúarthol; but Mîm betrayed it, the Orcs sacked the refuge, and the household of the Two Captains was destroyed. Amon Rûdh itself passed under the sea with the drowning of Beleriand in the War of Wrath.
