Dor-Cúarthol
the Land of Bow and Helm; the realm of the Two Captains
Names
Dor-Cúarthol, the “Land of Bow and Helm”, is the name that Túrin gave to the country he held with Beleg; the “bow” was the great bow of Beleg, the “helm” the dragon-helm of the house of Húrin.
Geography
The wilds between the Teiglin and the west marches of Doriath, about the hill of Amon Rûdh and the moors of the Petty-dwarves.
History
From their lair upon Amon Rûdh the Two Captains — Túrin, who took the name Gorthol, and Beleg — made war upon the Orcs and barred the southward roads from Angband, and the tale ran through Beleriand that the Bow and Helm had arisen again. The realm endured for about two years (F.A. 487–489), until Mîm disclosed the hill to the Orcs, the refuge was sacked, and the land of the Two Captains came to an end.
