Arathorn
the father of Aragorn; the sixteenth Chieftain of the Dúnedain
Name and Story
Arathorn (Arathorn II) was the Chieftain of the Dúnedain of the North, son of Arador, and the father of Aragorn. He fell in a skirmish with the Orcs when his son was two years old, slain by an arrow in the eye; his widow Gilraen brought the young heir to Rivendell, where Elrond fostered him and kept his true name secret for his safety.
Legacy
Little else is told of Arathorn save the swift stroke of his end; but his line — from Elendil down through the long Chieftains — was the hidden kingship that Aragorn at last restored.
