Celebrían
the daughter of Galadriel and Celeborn; the lady of Rivendell
Lineage and Life
Celebrían was the daughter of Galadriel and Celeborn of Lórien; in the later age she wed Elrond of Rivendell and bore him the twin sons Elladan and Elrohir, and the daughter Arwen — “the Evenstar of her house”. By her the line of the golden wood enters the house of the Half-elven.
The Wounding and the West
The falling shadow reached her: travelling through the wilds in T.A. 2509, she was captured and tormented by Orcs; a wound in her spirit (which no herb of the earth could heal) followed. Her grief was so great that, at the last, friends could not comfort her, and she sailed to the West (T.A. 2510), the first of the household of Rivendell to pass into the Sea. Her leaving deepened her daughter Arwen’s own choice and Elrond’s long mourning.
Significance
Celebrían is the quiet, wounded link between the great Elvish houses — daughter of the Lady of the Wood, wife of the keeper of the last homely house, mother of the Evenstar — and her departure to the West is the first of the sorrowful partings that mark the Third Age’s end.
