The Refuge
The Island of Balar lay in the great western bay under Beleriand’s southern shore. When the Havens of the Falas fell and the hosts of Morgoth pressed upon the coasts, the ships of Círdan fled thither, and the island became the last stronghold of the Elves of the West, and the light of the last hope.
The Gathering
There Gil-galad and Círdan and the remnant of the exiled Noldor dwelt long, keeping the memory of the Light, and from its shores looked for the coming of the host of the Valar in the War of Wrath.
