The Mallorn
the golden tree of Lórien and of the Shire
The Tree
The Mallorn was the great golden tree of the Galadhrim, tall and smooth-barked, whose leaves shone silver beneath and gold above as they turned; it was the wonder of the Golden Wood, whose flets the Elves built high among the branches.
The Gift
Only in Lórien did the mallorn grow in the later age; but after the War of the Ring Samwise planted the seed of the Golden Wood in Hobbiton, and in the spring a mallorn stood by the Party Field - the sign of the renewal of the realm of the Shire.
