The Ruin of Doriath
the war of the Nauglamír; the fall of the girdled realm
The Curse of the Gold
The Ruin of Doriath sprang from the jewel-lust of the Dwarves: when the Nauglamír was set with the single Silmaril of Lúthien, the craftsmen of Nogrod that made the work coveted it, slew Thingol at the door of his hoard, and fled; Melian’s power was withdrawn with her passing, and the Girdle was unwoven.
The Fall
Beren’s remnant hunted down the smiths and took the necklace, and with it the doom of the realm, borne to Doriath by Dior; the sons of Fëanor fell upon Menegroth for the Jewel of the Silmaril, and the Second Kinslaying emptied even the Thousand Caves of their last defence — so the hidden kingdom was laid bare at last.
