Definition
The Seven Fathers are the first seven lords whom Aulë made (and Eru adopted): each is the ancestor of one of the seven Dwarf-kindreds, each dwelling (in the legend) in his own ‘hall’. They were set to sleep until the Elves woke; only Durin (the eldest) woke alone, and his descent (the Longbeards) is the best-remembered.
