The Void (the ‘Void without’ the world) is the emptiness in which Eru set Eä: darkness, not nothingness — the domain beside the Timeless Halls, into which the Ainur’s music unfolded and through which Morgoth is cast at the world’s end (the Door of Night) until the Last Battle.
