The Withered Heath

the desolate dragon-country north of the Grey Mountains

The Heath

The Withered Heath was a desolate, gorse-strewn plain sprawled north of the Grey Mountains, remembered in the old tales as the realm of the Great Worms — the last haunt of the dragons, whence Smaug the Golden had come with his fire to Erebor.

The Name

Its name and story are spoken in the counsel of the dwarves and in the old legends of the North, and it stands as the far and lingering home of the dragon-kind in the annals of the later age.
