Name and Might

Helm Hammerhand was a great and terrible King of Rohan in the time of the Dunlending wars; a tall man of the old blood, he slew in an eye-blink the lord who had claimed insult, and in the war that followed the Dunlendings knew him as the Hammerhand who broke them.

The Long Winter

Besieged in the refuge of the Deep that ever after bore his name, he and his son went out by night and smote the camp of the enemy alone, until, at the end of the Long Winter, they found him standing frozen by a horn, and the snows of the Hornburg were his monument; his name and the horn of his home passed into the legends of the Mark.
