the capital of Rohan; the seat of the kings of the Mark
The Town
Edoras (“the Courts”) was the capital of Rohan, a town built on a green hill beneath the stark heights of the White Mountains, where the great hall of Meduseld with its golden roof rose above the dark wood; beyond stood the mounds of the First Marshal and of the kings of old.
The Events
Here Gandalf the White broke Gríma’s withered hold over Théoden and healed him; hence Théoden rode to the refuge of the Hornburg and then to the host of the Pelennor, and here, after the war, the new king Éomer ruled the renewed Mark.
