The Fords
The Fords of Isen crossed the swift river of the west-march of Rohan, where the road from the Gap climbed into the Mark; they were watched by the riders of the Westfold and long held the path against the wild people of the Dunland.
The Battles
In the war against Isengard two great battles were fought at the fords: in the first the riders of the Westfold beat back Saruman’s host, but in the later battle Théodred the heir was slain, and the way was opened for the march to the Hornburg.
