Pelargir
the Garth of the Royal Ships; the great haven of the Anduin
Names
Pelargir — “the Garth of the Royal Ships” — is the name of the earliest of the great havens of the Númenóreans in Middle-earth.
Geography
Pelargir lay upon the Great River Anduin at the head of its delta, in the southern fen-lands of what later became Gondor.
History
Built in the year 2350 of the Second Age, Pelargir was for long the chief stronghold and port of the Faithful in the West and the base of the Númenórean fleets that kept the seas; from it came the ships that bore the armies of the West against the growing Shadow. In the ages that followed it remained the great port of Gondor on the Anduin, and its quays saw the fleets of the King.
