Definition
Sindarin is the language of the Grey Elves (and the everyday tongue of the Eldar of Beleriand in the First Age, adopted by the exiled Noldor): a soft, melodious tongue (modelled on the Welsh speech that Tolkien loved), in which the greater part of Beleriand’s names are cast.
