The Book

The Adventures of Tom Bombadil is the small book of poems that Tolkien published in 1962, presented as taken from the Red Book of the hobbits: the songs of Tom Bombadil and Goldberry, the troll-song, the Sea-bell and other verses of the Shire and the wild.

Its Place

It stands at the edge of the legendarium — a fragment of the hobbit-lore and the old songs that the Ring quest preserves — and its title-poem is a companion to the tale of the Old Forest.
