The Prophecy

The Doom of the Noldor (the Prophecy of the North) is the curse pronounced by Mandos upon the shore of Araman when the exiled Noldor were set to enter the ships: that their flight should be shadowed by the Kinslaying, by woe and unappeased loss, by the fading of their works and their hope, until the Day of Wrath.

The Fulfilment

Fingolfin and his host alone (whose war was fought against the will of the Valar) took the ice, and the taint of the doom ran through the age — the wars, the crack between the brothers, the deaths of the great kings — even as the words of Mandos were remembered on the walls of Gondolin and at the last of the Quenta.
