The Eye of Sauron

the lidless eye above the Dark Tower; the will of the Dark Lord

termeye of sauronsauronbarad dur

The Eye

The Eye of Sauron is the terrible will of the Dark Lord made visible: a lidless, sleepless eye, ringed with flame, that looks out from the tower of Barad-dûr over the wastes of Mordor; through it Sauron perceived the bearers of the Ring and searched for his Ring.

Its Power

In the Mirror of Galadriel and in the high seat of Amon Hen, the Eye seemed to hunt the Ring-bearer; at the last, when the Ring sank into the fire, the Eye was shattered and its searching ended, and the Dark Tower and all its might fell.
