The Master of Lake-town

the thrice-elected Master; the merchant prince of the Long Lake

personmanlake townesgaroth

Story

The Master of Lake-town was the merchant-prince of Esgaroth, who had been elected Master in fairer days and wanted nothing so much as to grow rich and stay at ease. To the dwarves’ quest against the mountain he gave scant help, and kept the treasure-hungry town happy with words.

Fall

When the town burned he fled on the great raft with his gold before the general need could be answered, and came at last to the deserted lands, where he came to a sorry end among the Waste-lands of the North.
