The Party

The Unexpected Party was the famous gathering at Bag End on a spring morning of T.A. 2941: Gandalf came to the hobbit’s door, and thirteen dwarves arrived by twos and threes, taking tea and supper and singing of the gold of the Mountain, until Thorin Oakenshield set forth the map of Erebor.

The Quest

In the evening the wizard and the dwarves swore the hobbit a share of the treasure, and so at dawn of the next day Bilbo Baggins — the hobbit who loved comfort — set out upon the road that brought him the Ring and the story of the age.
