The Story

Bag End was the spacious and beloved smial of the Baggins family, carved soft-built into the Hill above Hobbiton. Here Bilbo entertained Thorin and Company and set out (with the hobbit’s gold) on the Quest that brought back the Ring; here, sixty years later, Bilbo vanished at his farewell party, leaving the Ring to his heir Frodo.

The War of the Ring

From its green door the road went ever on: the Ring-bearer’s road began and ended here, and after the Scouring Samwise returned and dwelt at Bag End, and at the last, with his daughter Elanor gone to the West, kept the garden of the Hill till his own passing into the Grey Havens.
