The Party
The Long-expected Party was the grand birthday celebrated at the Party Tree of Hobbiton when Bilbo turned 111 and Frodo 33; the grandest affair the Shire had seen, with fireworks and gifts and a great feast for the whole country-side.
The Vanishing
At the height of the supper Bilbo spoke a word of farewell, drew the Ring upon his finger and vanished before all eyes — leaving behind him the Ring and the opening of the great tale; for Gandalf, seeing how the hobbit was caught at the last, counselled that the Ring must not be kept, and the Quest of the Ring began.
