Anórien
the Sunlending; the land of the beacon-hills
Names
Anórien, the Sunlending — the land of the morning — is the name of the province of Gondor that lay north of the White Mountains.
Geography
Anórien stretched between the Great River Anduin and the borders of the northern realm, along the north foot of the Ered Nimrais. Upon its heights stood the beacon-hills of the warning chain, and within its woods dwelt the wild folk of the Drúadan forest; through its eastern parts went the roads that guarded the crossings of the river.
History
As a province of Gondor it kept the northern approaches of Minas Tirith; and in the days of the waning of the realm, its beacons from the eastern hills to Halifirien were still the chain by which the warning of war was carried westward.
