Gollum
Sméagol; the wretch of the Mere; the finder of the Ring
Gollum was the Stoor-hobbit Sméagol, twisted by the One Ring into the guttering wretch that was both aid and terror. He guided the Ring-bearers through the Dead Marshes and Emyn Muil, contended with Sam, and at the last followed Frodo to the Cracks of Doom — where, seizing the Ring, he fell into the fire, and the Ring was unmade.
