Mûmakil
the great oliphaunts of the South, ridden by the Haradrim
Name and Kind
The Mûmakil (the Oliphaunts) were the vast elephants of Harad, beasts of sun and dust whose tusks were bound with gold and whose war-trunks brought ruin; the Haradrim rode them into battle, and they came north with the hosts of the South.
In the War of the Ring
At the Pelennor the Mûmakil broke the Rohirrim’s first charge and were the terror of the field, until the great beast of their chieftain was brought down and the host of the South turned to rout.
