The Caves
The Glittering Caves (Aglarond) were the marvellous caverns behind the Hornburg at Helm’s Deep — vast, smooth, and vail-clean halls of stone of unimaginable beauty, gleaming with the colours of the earth when lanterns were lifted.
The Praise
Legolas was unwilling to bide with Gimli, saying that the caves were the fairest of the works of the earth; and Gimli, given the wardenship of the caves after the war, rejoined: ‘a fair land, and a fair people; let the Dwarves and the Elves rejoice together.’
