the old North-South Road, the forgotten way to Gondor
The Road
The Greenway was the old and grass-grown North-South road that crossed the lands from Fornost to the Isen and the south, meeting the Great East Road at Bree; in later days it was used only by the Dúnedain and a few travellers, and the grass had grown over its stones.
In the War
Along its length the paths of the North brought the Rangers and the messengers of the war, and its memory of the strong greensward of the old kingdom carried the name of the South-kingdom’s age.
